Rings are used to monitor the colony as part of the rescue program implemented by LPO ("Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux") a Birdlife International Partner.

If you look closer, you will notice that this female is holding to its bill a Saddle-backed bush-cricket (Ephippiger ephippiger) with its ringed leg.
Winter quarters of those Lesser Kestrel are located in Western Africa (Burkina-Faso, Mali and Niger) while more eastern populations spend the non breeding season in south Africa.
