Variety of landscapes is a great asset for Botswana. The Delta is, of course, a specific trademark of the country : a wetland in the middle of the desert. A green zone that is attracting every life form with an unbelievable density. Palms, water lilies and reeds constitute a very pleasant and elegant landscape.
The Okavango river yearly flood is an impressive and unpredictable phenomenon. Just as for the Nile in the old times in Egyptia, it is a highly awaited event that will carry productive and wealthy water both for men and wildlife.
The salted pans of Makgadikgadi reveals the remainders from this unidentified batracian species desiccated by drought
Dry savannah is also a typical biotope of northern Botswana such as here at Moremi national Park (where an hippo has lost its jaw)
Of course, while you are in the north of Botswana, you can't miss Victoria falls. That is just a short drive from Chobe National Park. Dr david Livingstone who "discovered" (at least for the european public) the falls explained that the Makololo (one of the indigenous people of the country) referred to them as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" = "Smoke that thunders" in reference to the vapour and noise. Victoria falls are one of the major falls in the world along with Niagara and Iguaçu falls. A magnifiscient sight which only drawback would be...its popularity. Personnally, I have to confess that even if I really enjoyed this great site during my first trip, for me, nothing is worthed one or two more days of game viewing.
Baobabs can be sighted in a few places such here at Baine's Baobab south of N'xai Pan.
You must be prepared to take light planes because many sites can be reached only by air. Either because roads are unusable (specially in rainy season) or even because there is no road acces (it is the case for many lodges in the Delta).
Moreover, this is a much valuable experience providing excellent sighting opportunities over the Delta. You can even spot larger mammals from the plane. Unforgettable.
